Dell Inspiron Mini Series

Dell offers the IM10 and IM12, the latter has the largest screen for a netbook at 12.1 inches. The trade-off is a smaller hard drive and inflated price. To be competitive, the IM10 is probably the better deal. Their battery life claim is probably more realistic as the effectiveness of the 8-10 hour models will wane over time.

Screen Size: 10.1-12.1 inches
Battery Life: 3 hours
Price Range: $399-499

Toshiba NB-205

Toshiba has one good model of netbook, but as a Toshiba owner I like them a lot. The NB-205 comes in 5 colors including black which gives you a discount. The other colors are cool, but not $50 cool. Very competitive model with good pricing and another hit for folks who like Toshiba.

Screen Size: 10.1 inches
Battery Life: 9 hours
Price Range: $349-399

Samsung N Series Netbooks

Samsung makes just about everything, so their computers should be good too, and they are. What they lack in variety, they make up for in quality, albeit at a higher price. The N310 featured here is a bit pricey, but is a must-have for Samsung lovers.

Screen Size: 10.1-10.2 inches
Battery Life: 6-9 hours
Price Range: $419-478

Asus Eee PC Netbooks

The Asus EEE PC line of netbooks gives good usability at a small size and good price. Comes in white, black and pink depending on model. Features the Asus 1005 HA which has the highest battery life (so they claim) that I've ever heard marketed.

Screen Size: 8.9-10.1 inches
Battery Life: 5-10.5 hours
Price Rage: $349-$399

Acer Aspire One Netbooks

Acer makes a nice range of netbooks that come in 4 colors.

Featuring the model AO751h which is still inexpensive with a big 11.6 inch screen and offers the Intel Atom Z520 Processor which trades processing for increased battery life (so they say).

Screen Size: 10.1-11.6 inches
Battery Life: 6.5-8 hours
Price Range: $349-389

Netbook Players

Although there are many companies making netbooks, we'll be focusing on Acer, Asus, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba.
